Could this be the start of another year of disputes between unions and the Department for Education?

I'm going to be in @bbcradiolondon in the morning (just after 7am!) to talk about whether or not exam year students in RAAC schools should have a boost to their grades.

Is this necessary? And should it be a blanket approach for GCSEs and A-levels in 2024?

I ‘m glad that the level of utter dysfunction in the SEND system has been acknowledged. Just a shame that not enough is being done to address the actual issues faced by schools and families, and so much focus is on demand suppression in order to reduce necessary expenditure.

Yes, say the authors of this report 👇🏼who argue it is boosting grades and making a difference to pupils.

How does a potential return work alongside workload reduction, and how far would it exacerbate recruitment and retention problems?

A swing back to coursework and teacher assessments is a swing back to high workload demands, with fewer teachers to accommodate those demands.

We can't return to teacher assessment for GCSEs and A-levels, with a simple swap.

This is the argument made here: tes.com/magazine/analy…

Are you a teacher who would welcome it back? Or someone who has only known terminal exams and would want more training in assessment?

Very interesting Tes piece from Stuart Shaw, new Chair CIEA Assessment is central to the teaching and learning process and needs to be a core skill of the teaching profession. See Richard and NAHT for professional development opportunities.

A tapper recently wrote and asked if students are more commonly lining up outside before they come into school in the morning 🤔

Turns out: 16% of primary schools and 20% of secondary schools line pupils up outside before they come into school.
