Perhaps we might be wise, to think of racism
Not just as a cause (of ills in society)
But also as a symptom (of a sick society)
A symptom just like environmental degradation, drug addiction or chronic lonliness
The sickness: disconnection
The cure: love

The entire possibility of social progress, hinges on our ability to change, evolve and challenge our own minds. We must start to value moral evolution over moral perfection or we are in danger of stalling progress altogether.

reminder to self:

to stay in the struggle for social justice
without burning out
you must protect your mental health
and cultivate your mental flexibility.

As the world's eyes are on oppression, one group often forgotten are those with chronic mental illness. My sister, who has lived with one for 20 years has written a beautiful and heartbreaking article on living with visible mental illness. Please read.

If you’re having to ask the question - “am I an ally?” the answer is no. Allyship isn’t something you are, it’s something you do. If you’re doing it, you’ll know.
