Is throwback Thursday still a thing?
Because I’m really feeling this today.

“When you go right too many times, you begin to spiral. It’s time to go left, Alberta.”

ABNDP memberships are still available to vote in their leadership race.

Wow. I step in to support a journalist against an accusation of bias and am accused of being part of a 'progressive monoculture.' Proud to be part of UCalgary Law and the actual diversity of perspectives on many issues here. Who's with me?

Context is everything. This so-called climate plan was released on Apr 19, 2023 - two weeks before the May election.

Any serious climate plan requires targets. You cannot pay off your mortgage without a payment plan.

We need targets and a serious implementation plan

BC has now:

✅ Legalized apts near transit

✅ Begun re-legalizing top quality 1-stair floorplans

✅ Legalized fire-resistive mass timber up to 18 stories

All on top of North America's largest fully automated metro.

This is our continent's highest-performing government today

The article Rusnell links provides useful retrospective on how we've arrived at this moment: experts repeatedly sounding the alarm on data transparency & harmful political decisions while people with influence remain silent.

In Alberta, we practice “aspirational” emissions reductions. Real reductions (and plans) are for weaklings, apparently.

The UCP gvt is keeping its commitment to reducing red tape by *checks notes* stopping any entity regulated by the province from entering into, renewing or extending a deal with Ottawa without approval from the province. theglobeandmail.com/canada/alberta…

Danielle Smith punches at Ottawa again, and this time gets screams of pain.
They're from mayors, academics and others caught in her gatekeeping proposal.

We salute Holly for her service, but it's not actually so hard!

You can, and should, do what Holly's doing this April 22nd, and come to council to show them you're serious about zoning reform.

The federal tri-council research funding agencies (NSERC, SSHRC, & CIHR) are among the most prestigious & sought after in Canadian academic circles. If this law applies to those, you may as well shut down AB's universities b/c no one will want to work at them.

Interestingly, the Fair Deal Panel argued forcefully against the type of law the Government of Alberta introduced today.
