If the headline makes your blood boil probably best not read the article. The more we hear about the private water industry the more it looks like racketeering rather than commerce

The Truss book sounds toe-curlingly awful but every extract that I've read has made me laugh out loud. Memo to bookshops: display it in the humour section, you'll sell a lot more that way

We are getting used to these kinds of numbers now, but the swing implied here is unprecedented. If repeated in the GE, it would mean an 18.5 point Con to Lab swing. Nearly twice as large as the swing Blair achieved in 1997 (10 points) or Attlee achieved in 1945 (10.7 points)

Too many Tories seem to rely not on what research says about 'their' voters but on what their favourite news outlets tell them about those voters. Nothing new in that perhaps. But I'd suggest it's getting increasingly common - and increasingly problematic.

One of the encouraging aspects of a likely Labour election victory is that the party is taking seriously improving the machinery of government. After years of performative nonsense from the current lot this alone is going to be a big step forward

It's not just European militaries that are unprepared for war, so too are our societies - and we need an honest public conversation about that

Conservative-Reform 'cross-over' looking increasingly likely? Would take us into uncharted territory, to say the least

Britain is the 2nd most powerful country in the world? A bold thesis entirely lacking evidence or even a clear definition of 'power'.
