I feel bad for all the translators out there who actually like the stuff they work on and don’t feel morally superior to the people who made it. Stuff like this makes their lives that much harder

People would be more willing to accept localization if it wasn't filled with assholes who literally brag about stuff they change, and how much they hate what they're working on.

Watching anime at an early age got me to research and learn outside of a school setting. From there, it only expanded into other cultures not just Japanese.

These are exactly the kind of people you don't want translating your stories.
They will co-opt it, disfigure it, and stick it back together in their image because they do not know how to create. Only destroy what others have created.

All those words and you never mention remaining faithful to the author's original vision. That's not localization, that's outright disrespectful butchery.

I say this from the lens of a professional translator with decades of experience, and who is hired to ensure faithfulness.

Capcom's localization team confirms localization is artistic vandalism, something anyone examining it honestly already knows. It's the imposition of perceived Western sensibilities onto Japanese media which places worldview over respecting the original work.

Don't expect Capcom games to be getting better in creative freedom and accurate translation anytime soon.

And dear god, do not wish for remakes unless you want to see them disfigured.
