On 12-15 April, families of former inmates of German KL Ravensbrück, Polish Scouts and a representative of the IPN Branch in Cracow travelled to Germany to participate in the ceremony commemorating the 79th anniversary of the liberation of the Ravensbrück concentration camp.

Kazimierz Smoleń, born in 1920, was sent to German KL Auschwitz in 1940. After almost 5 years of imprisonment and a death march, he was liberated.

Mr. Smoleń became one of the founders of the Auschwitz Memorial and served as its director.

Jan Szuścik was a Polish politician, teacher and member of the Silesian Parliament. He served as the mayor of the city of Łazy.

During WW2, Jan was arrested by the Germans in the Intelligenzaktion Schlesien and sent to KL Sachsenhausen, where he perished in 1941.
