A month ago tomorrow I asked NHSE's press office how many graduating doctors had been left with an unallocated F1 position. I've heard it could be up to 1000 and some could only be told where they are going in July - less than a month before they are due to start work 1/2

I secured my national training number in cardiology 20 years ago in 2004. In those days, after 6 years training you could become a consultant.

I was offered an academic consultant post in 2010 and i declined it- I didn't feel I was safe and my skills in interventional Cardiology…

Unless you have been to medical school & qualified as a doctor,

You are not “trained in medicine”

You are not “trained in the medical model”

You are not “working to the equivalent of an F1-ST7”

You should not be on a medical on-call rota, day or night

This decision is a huge concern for us and our members. The NHS Practitioner Health programme has benefited doctors in the most difficult circumstances.

Doctors urgently need support of this type to cope with the ever-increasing pressures they face.

NHS Practitioner Health It’s ludicrous to suggest that frenetically pressured GP services with 10-minute consultations, can remotely be considered an alternative to the expert independent NHS Practitioner Health service that’s been a lifeline to tens thousands Drs enabling many to continue/return to work.

I have worked with NHS Practitioner Health for almost a decade. First as a clinical lead and now as a psychiatrist. A CQC-rated Outstanding service. We need to care for our NHS staff so they can care for their patients.

A reminder why NHS Practitioner Health was first set up - after the heartbreaking tragedy of a doctor who so feared stigma from colleagues she felt unable to seek mental health support - & killed herself & her baby daughter.

Please don't defund this vital service, NHS England 🙏
