👀 We need research into “long long covid”. In a significant proportion of people this condition goes on for YEARS.

The current strain of #H5N1 is apparently a virus that is not very willing to jump to humans. But we are doing everything to change it: Circulation in mink fur farms since last year, now circulation in US cows. I really fear we are soon watching a pandemic in the unfolding.

A few thoughts on the role of pigs in the emergence of influenza A virus in mammals.

1. It is simply not the case that movement of flu viruses into non-swine mammal species requires pigs as a 'mixing vessel'.

- Ongoing human studies & epi w/ workers on farms, processing facilities
- Situation evolving in cows (cow-cow, cow-bird transmission)(asymptomatic infection)

Want to say this a little louder. I hope companies are making low cost, in-home, rapid tests for flu. Best would be multiplex for flu A/B, H5, C19, 3 columns or rapid home molecular tests (but very low cost). No panic, but it’s time to start development.

UK stopped collecting data on Long Covid. Switzerland NEVER started 'because cost-benefice ratio' was not satisfactory for our health minister (and his friends of course)
