You do not need illustrations to submit a picture book text. An editor will match your words with the right illustrations (and they love this part of their role!).
Please do not pay an artist to create illustrations for your book.

Agree! But we always say this and it fizzles after a few goodwill gestures.

The industry won’t give ‘respect’ to illustrators unless there are figures to back it up. That’s simply how business works.

And the sales exist, just no one sorts that data into accessible figures 👀
