- you get more insulation when you can replace 1800s-ass houses with modern buildings that have double pane windows and insulation
- you don't need to own a car if you can live in an apartment in a large city with public transport

british smugness about the whole idea that they're superior falls flat in the face of the fact that france is regulated to high heaven and still a solid 25% richer than them because you can build a fucking apartment in france
