Even more specifically this is true Marugame udon served at 手打うどん 龍. In my opinion a particularly good example. And only ¥400. 407-1 Tsunomoricho, Marugame, Kagawa 763-0052

We've not had the best of weather in Japan but today Kagawa was bright, this bit of the garden perked up and the temperature was in the low 20s.

In fact not 'likely' - as I claim - but that's what they do, 'hopping' from one island to the next. What drives them to look out to sea and think 'mmm that looks like a nice place to live' is unknown.

The season has started for ice coffee. has been operating since 1994 and I've been coming here since 1998. It hasn't changed. The owner is a coffee connoisseur of course.

If you haven't noticed already - but why should you? - for the next few months most of my tweets will be on life in Kagawa Prefecture. An image of the Prefecture dish - udon. More specifically shoyu udon.

has a wild boar problem so gardeners now have to erect this type of steel fence to stop the boar digging up their crops. The boar are a recent problem. They likely arrived on the island by swimming across the Inland Sea.

I snapped this as it reminded me of a favourite film: Twenty-Four Eyes (1954) directed by Keisuke Kinoshita. Children walking to school. Marugame. Kagawa.

On (広島 ) at this time of year, the Odaishi Mairi is held on the anniversary of Kukai (Kōbō-Daishi) death. Folklore has it that he visited Mt Shinkyo (心経山) on the island.

This is the neatest crop growing I've ever seen. Perfectly symmetrical; bamboo carefully assembled. Speaking to the farmer, he told us that all this was part of his 'personality.' He also gave us a bag of citrus fruit to take home.

Buddha’s words are given greater beauty through the use of musical techniques when chanting sutras, such as maintaining a certain rhythm. Here on Sanuki Hiroshima a monk remembers the death of Kūkai (空海; 27 July 774 – 22 April 835[1]), posthumously called Kōbō Daishi .

Following on from my last post about staying at the Onoetei 旧尾上邸 house on Sanuki Hiroshima, these are the neatly grown crops nearby. The farmer told me that this approach represents his personality.

Frankly? A wonderfully simple experience. Not an over the top ryokan but the chance to stay in a historic house - so long as you're prepared to do your own cooking. Or cook and eat with the next door farmers. Lovely location. onoetei.wixsite.com/official/協議会について

I recently came across this website that explains in some detail the history of the stone islands, the group of islands in the western Seto Inland Sea that provided the granite for many of Japan's most important buildings. stone-islands.jp/story/
