Happy birthday to pioneering filmmaker Jessie Maple Patton! Maple left a successful bacteriologist career in the 1970s to pursue filmmaking, becoming the first Black woman admitted to the New York Cinematographer’s Union after a prolonged discrimination lawsuit. #JessieMaple
