I studied history at university and took a number of modules on nazi history. When I asked my lecturer what happened to Black Germans, he responded that there “wasn’t really any.” And this is how erasure happens seamlessly in the classroom.

“When he heard Daddy Yankee he thought he was Black…like Tego. Normally hip-hop is recognized as being of African Americans, incl. reggaeton when it started. When he saw Daddy Yankee he said “I can be like him! I saw him open a path, I saw Yankee was white, a Latino, like me.”

Here’s where mestizaje discourse got us. J Balvin has said publicly that he couldn’t see himself in reggaeton until Daddy Yankee because he thought the genre was too Black and yet here we are. Disgusting.

J. Balvin getting an award designated explicitly for Afro (the “Afro” means Black, in case that’s not obvious) Latinos from a AEAUSA shows the continued failure of Latinidad and the myth of mestijaze. Y’all refuse to listen to Black people from Latin America.

Heard a whole lot of big talk about 'diversity' last summer.

Are yall keeping the same energy regarding hiring diverse candidates or nah?

What does your team look like?

What changes have you made since you posted black squares and sent performative emails to your company?

“White Americans aren’t afraid of the cops. White Americans are never afraid of the cops, even when they’re committing an insurrection,” Nope. says about the Trump supporters rioting the US Capitol.
