'Every high-functioning depressed person has a self they try very hard to conceal. It is **work** performing your wellness—for some people, it’s more exhausting than their actual day job.'

The Post is incredibly smart & lucky with this get. Since he hasn't changed papers in two decades, taking the opportunity to say that David Ovalle has been schooling me on reporting since we were 16, and there's just nobody like him. Cannot wait to read this next chapter!

Walking off the job today is not easy for for any of us. As NYT journalists, we literally put our whole lives behind this work.

But this contract is more than an investment in us: This is an investment in the future of the The New York Times, the industry, and the public we serve.

Working for The New York Times is the honor of my life and the best job I’ve ever had. Which is why it pains me so much to walk off the job today. But I am proud to stand with more than 1,100 of my NYTimesGuild colleagues.

I and 1,000+ colleagues aren't working tomorrow to protest our lack of a fair contract that reflects our contribution to the The New York Times and its success. Please support us by avoiding Times products - including Wordle - and consider messaging on our behalf: tinyurl.com/yt5tjuht

Tomorrow we hold power to account at the New York Times. Don’t use the app. Don’t click on the site. Read local news. Support public radio. Pull out a cookbook. Break your Wordle streak. Don’t touch the crossword. Support every worker fighting for a better world.

I'm sorry to share that negotiations with the Times collapsed tonight when the company walked off the table. I along with more than 1,000 of my colleagues will be on a 24-hour walk-out starting tonight at midnight.

It’s why I think reality of situation is more complicated than idea that “Latinos saved democracy.” Hate me for saying it. But more realistic, I think, to say that Latinos were important part of coalition, alongside white liberals and Republican women who crossed party lines.

When I signed up to represent 1,400 colleagues on the New York Times union bargaining committee, I never thought this is where we would be two years later. As the Guild put it:
Enough.

Election eve fun fact: NV has same-day registration, passed by Ds over GOP objections in 2019.

In 2020, 67K took advantage, about half registering for first time, half updating their reg.

Of the 30K new ones, 9,929 were Dems and -- drum roll -- 11,840 were Repubs.

The horror.
