Today, without notice, have taken possession of our Calvert Jubilee nature reserve. They will now destroy decades of hard work by BBO Wildlife Trust staff & volunteers who have made it a haven for wildlife. This is a sad day for us, and for all who fought to save this special place.

I was intrigued recently to see these galls (on upright hedge parsley). Coincidentally, I then saw a picture of what looked to be the same in a thread by @haggewoods. So, borrowing from that, they are probably caused by the larvae of kiefferia pericarpiicola.

Most of the round-leaved sundews at Snelsmore Common still seemed to be waiting for their first meal today (pictures 1-3), but I did eventually find one lucky one (picture 4)!

Property Week’s newest reporter, Jasper, has finished his first press cycle. He spent most of it chasing his tail rather than stories and also did a wee on the news editor’s foot but all in all he’s off to a solid start.

Exciting! The 'sapphire tower' is now in bud. It hasn't flowered for two years - here is a photo from the same plant in 2018 - its impossibly blue flowers are definitely worth the wait...

Came across a whole load of Variegated Yellow Archangel on a daily exercise walk the other day. Very beautiful, very invasive.

Day 106 In a shady spot weeding session I was pleased to find this Wood Speedwell, Veronica montana. Leaves coarsely toothed, all stalked, sprawling stems which are hairy all round. Pale lilac blue flowers in loose clusters. Left it unweeded!

If this government had been in charge in 1944 thousands of British troops would have landed on the Normandy beaches wearing badges saying GUN.

Dandelions are VITAL for early pollinators!

They're not weeds, they're not ugly, they're not intruding - they're an amazing we should celebrate & cherish.

Three pollen-drizzled bees browsing dandies in this morning's sun 👌

Native to South America, the genus of the bloodflower (Asclepias curassavica) is named after the Greek god of medicine, Asklepios. This plant has been used in traditional medicine for centuries and recent pharmaceutical studies have revealed its promising modern medicinal uses.

As everyone, I'm not getting out much. So the nearby plants are all the more special - Herb Robert (Stinky Bob) and Garlic Mustard.
