“Brexit border checks delayed again as will cause higher costs and disruption at the border”

I believe this is the 6th delay.

It’s almost as if they understand that actually doing Brexit… is bad.

And our own exporters are disadvantaged by this limbo. ft.com/content/ba1974…

Paging those into international history, internationalism, IR and diplomatic studies! No ink to dry (sadly), but Jan Stöckmann and I just signed a contract with Manchester University Press for a book titled 'Instruments of International Order: Internationalism and Diplomacy, 1900 to 1950'.

As I've said many times before, I don't foresee any more iterations of the Research Excellence Framework, at least in its present form. Labour will be desperate for money to keep universities' doors open. This is one place they'll find it.

Notable that neither Downing Street or the local Tory MP* have condemned the attack on a Ulez camera with an improvised bomb. Look at these pics (via Bex ) - someone could easily have been killed. A de facto terror attack in a London suburb would normally merit comment.

Hello Nick Robinson I don’t suppose BBC Radio 4 Today would like to invite me to talk about how BBC director Robbie Gibb tried to fix the chair of Ofcom and how the corporation refuses to talk about it?

An extraordinary stat, that points to a fundamental democratic problem.

A collapsing Tory party on its 3rd PM in 18 months, engulfed in civil war, can still pull in 5x as much cash as Labour.

Over 2023 it's 2.5x as much. Victorians called this 'plutocracy acting on democracy'.

This is desperate stuff from a lame-duck Prime Minister who has lost control of his party.

Using a Downing Street press conference to try to persuade Conservative MPs to back this failed Rwanda plan is a new low.

Sunak needs to call an election now.

The PM’s letter to Robert Jenrick seems to confirm that it was not his but RWANDA’s concern for OUR international law obligations that prevented the Bill from going even further. Shameful if true.

.Royal Historical Society has today issued a statement on the proposed cuts and closures Oxford Brookes in & other depts bit.ly/40YVjut

These cuts are extensive. They risk the future of staff students, and the very research culture for which Brookes historians are known.

Yup - I’ve said this 100 times.

In fact, Brits increasingly want to regain free movement, particularly if it correctly presented to them as “mutual free movement”. 👇

This is an extraordinary statistic. Shades of the 1830s, when debt payments neared 60% of expenditure by central govt.

Peel responded to that crisis by restructuring the whole tax system, rewriting the financial contract between citizens & state.

Is there a Peel for the 2020s?

Excited to be at the Freeman Air and Space Institute’s event at the Strand Campus of King’s College London to talk about careers in air and space! It’s good to be back at my PhD home doing something I love.
