Efficiency can—and probably does, to an extent—drop with scale

With some companies, it drops less, and outcomes net out higher

In some cases, it doesn't matter. Less efficient companies make enough money to keep some groups of people very happy.

This is a post I’ve wanted to write for a long time. The basic idea is that waste in product work is invisible. But if we COULD see it, what would it look like?

'This post is about where the time/energy goes. Yes, individual knowledge, skills, motivation, and habits matter. But in most organizations, these things pale compared to developers' daily challenges and environment.'

'Employees don’t leave Companies, they leave their managers' ... very popular saying

But... A large % of a team members experience is dictated by the actions of managers/leaders from other teams.

Maybe ... People don't leave managers, they leave management

my son (5yo) escaped school with a 3yo classmate, and they walked half a mile before someone noticed. across two busy streets.

report:
'He has stated that he wants to “escape” tomorrow again so he can go home and watch tv and then get stickers from the policemen.'

Another excellent 'see the system' post from John Cutler!

I love how these examples demonstrate how the shared system creates extraneous cognitive load for individuals.

It shows that the leverage is in how we work together, just as much as what work we do together!
