I remember a time when charities simply didn’t need counter-disinformation expertise in their communications teams. It was a gentler time.

Lucy Ward 🇺🇦 John McTernan it's utterly nuts, but it's an older story.Linda McDougall's bio of Marcia is so brilliant on all of this - one of those feminist retellings of a story that at the time was treated completely differently.

subconsciously, 'generative AI' is fuelled by enraged and violent resentment of people with creative skills; that's why the builders of the giant plagiarism machines claim that to type a prompt is to 'make' or 'create' artistic works — it's a rhetorical annihilation of craft

I asked half a dozen comms and marketing types if the Tories were making deliberately terrible ads for clicks.

Their overwhelming response was 'what are you, an idiot?'

asking here because truly you never know: if an outlet would like to send me to the Democratic Convention in Chicago in August then I would love to write about it very much, and my rates are very reasonable

This is a good piece - I entirely agree that an incoming Labour government needs to hit the ground running, and that to do so it should take advantage of the constitutional inheritance left it by the Conservatives...

This is a problem on lots of levels. 1) Sends message there's a free pass voting Reform to Tories 2) Erodes discipline and suggests disunity 3) Worst of both worlds in fusing Tory brand with Reform - risks alienating more liberal voters while unlikely to pull Reform voters back.

The exhibition at the The The National Archives entitled 'Great Escapes: Remarkable Second World War Captives' is both enlightening and enjoyable. The exhibition runs until 21st July and I would highly recommend a visit. nationalarchives.gov.uk/great-escapes/.

John McTernan I think François Mitterrand once said of the powers of the presidency under the 5th Republic that though they weren’t made for him, they fitted him very well.

Well, Tory MPs were warned. And NB (and I’m sure John McTernan knows) that REULA 2023 is only the start of it: much post-Brexit legislation in eg agriculture, trade, medicines gives huge powers to Ministers to set policy and rules within a skeletal framework.
