So when Starmer said there's no money for lifting people out of poverty, or ending austerity, what he really meant was that he intends to siphon the money off to pay for war-toys controlled by the US.

You can read more about the guardrails in this thread (and book) - the task then is to find ways to push through them yourself:

'The current conversation[s] around net zero... do not target the underlying political dimensions of environmental decay'

Dr. Peter Sutoris explains the impact of this in this new article undark.org/2024/04/11/opi…, he's pushing through at least one of the guardrails Chris Shaw identifies

Albert Pinto Chris Shaw The problem was always the desire to make dealing with climate change 1) a cost-benefit analysis driven exercise and 2) focusing on policy vs demand side actions. The former always runs into issues of tractability and cost while the latter builds resentment for govt decisions

i know i have a strong bias here given i've been in Oil Country for most of the past year but as i get ready to leave truly i do not see anything 'happening' beyond business as usual. there is a lot of back-patting about how much safer, more efficient the industry is now

Before the Light Fades is out soon in paperback.
In it I trace my mother's uncompromising way of life, from her arrest for civil disobedience aged 19. And through to her decision to die peacefully by her own hand at the age of 75. A legacy of courage - and love.

I have been looking at the extreme temperatures across continental Europe and wondering how my mental health would cope if such extremes happened here in the UK. It looks like I might be about to find out.

Chris Shaw Yes. Abstract climate duscourse doesn't work. We need to embed the ecological emergency in day to day politics. It's in line with good social science and sound political strategy.

Here's a thing I increasingly encounter in my work - people are sick and tired of talking about climate change.

Perhaps 20 years of surveys and consultations against a backdrop ofaccelerating climate breakdown has left people disillusioned.
