This kind of coverage is no easy feat. Well done RISE Mzansi. I don’t care if it gets two or three seats. This is its first election. Point is: It’s been a game-changer in South Africa’s centrist politics, a disruptive moment that has those who’ve shifted right nervous. Bravo.

The IEC cannot conduct elections where the eligibility of candidates is contested and the court will settle that issue finally. Also, it would be a bigger legitimacy crisis to deny a candidate a seat he has been elected to on an issue that could be resolved before the election.

The JSC shortlist for three vacancies at the SCA has some strong candidates.
The JSC agreed to rerun these interviews after its decision to only recommend two judges for appointment - despite several suitable candidates- was challenged by FUL.
These interviews are set for 20 May.
