BREAKING: This brilliant speech yesterday by a Columbia professor on the cowardice of the university administration in calling in police to arrest students will be cited throughout history -– and will inspire generations of students for decades to come.

If you remember UNICEF’s James Elder has been warning everyone about the scale of disaster faced in Gaza for months. I cannot imagine what it must be like to return and see it worse. Here in harrowing words, he attempts to capture it: theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

One of the most profound experiences I’ve ever had of the preservation of hope amidst darkness was visiting the ICMP facility in Srebenica with a friend from Iraq. The world that heals honours the dead and identifies the missing.

“All I can say is that at least 10 per cent of the ammunition that is being fired potentially fails to function…with 100 trucks we’re talking about 14 years of work… 14 years with about 750,000 workdays - person workdays - to remove the debris.”

Egyptian women stood in solidarity with women in 🇵🇸 & 🇸🇩 , and they were subsequently arrested. It was & will always remain an intersectional struggle against oppressors, whether they be occupiers or our own oppressive regime. These tough times are bringing us closer together.

AND if that weren't enough, Egypt is risking international and diplomatic tensions by arresting and prosecuting individuals promised protection by UN Women and some of whom happen to be multinationals of the United States, Ireland, and Italy.

Because, priorities.

Wrap your head around this:

In the middle of regional conflict + economic crisis, Egypt is prioritizing the arrest + prosecution the country's top rights defenders for standing in solidarity with women impacted by the wars in Gaza and Sudan and demanding that the UN do better.

16 of the Egyptian protesters detained yesterday outside of the UN Women Arabic office during a feminist solidarity stand for the women of Gaza and Sudan are now being questioned before the Supreme State Security Prosecution.

The remainder were released without questioning.

It's been ~8 hours since Egyptian authorities arrested and forcibly disappeared peaceful protesters from outside UN Women Arabic for their feminist solidarity despite promises from UN Women that demonstrators would be safe.

8 hours & UN Women Arabic remains shamefully silent.

Italian students are protesting too. I don’t think people understand the ramifications of the protests at Columbia. Those kids are literally leading and paving the way with their activism. Palestine will set us all free.
