I knew the X-Men '97 was going to be bad, and they validated my not watching it by doing the 1 thing I can never forgive.

They killed off Gambit.

No joke. You're dead to me forever, Marvel.

I did like the way Dune 2 showed the complications between Paul and the Fremen (after all, transforming the planet-what they want-ultimately destroys them in subsequent books), but Chani was the wrong character to coopt to show that.

Well, Dune 2 is absolutely not a faithful adaptation of the novel. The film team jettisoned whole themes and significantly shifted the point to make it more suitable for post-modern standard-bearers.

The spectacle was impressive, though, and I was happy to see lasguns.

Having just seen Dune part 2, I can safely say that the miniseries holds its title as the best adaption.

Like most adaptions these days, it misses the point of Dune.

Almost done... 198 of 224 pages of this first read-through finished. So far, I've dropped the word count from 137k to 121k. Can I dip it under 120 before I'm done? It's looking good!

It's amazing how many words you can cut by simply tightening.

The experience of editing two unrelated manuscripts at once is a curious one. On one hand, I see that my style is consistent between my three published ones and these two. On the other hand, the subjects are so different that it's actually refreshing.
