This is a great point. It is perplexing that some people think of preferential treatment on dimensions like legacy/connections as consistent with some notion of meritocracy while simultaneously arguing that using race is not. Can someone explain this to me?

Dissertation defended. Just crushed some Dominos Parmesan bites to celebrate while I wait for some guy to change my car’s oil and windshield wipers. Can life even get better than this?

Great interview with Jerrod Carmichael that inadvertently covers two prominent views of standup comedy. (1) standup as capturing absurd, raw, honest, and incomplete search for personal truth vs (2) standup as a polished presentation of hilarious jokes. buff.ly/3QYegr3

@econtwitter How many referee reports per year should an AP in economics be doing? Figured I'd ask this ahead of time so I am not surprised by the workload.

I try to assume the best intention in the actions of others. The internet too often seems to want to do the opposite. I think the former is way better than the latter if your goal is to be productive, gain understanding, solve problems, and find happiness in this life.

Some of the most inspired, honest standup I think I've ever seen. I replay Jerrod's specials like they are albums. Jerrod Carmichael Bo Burnham youtube.com/watch?v=4Gfk0-…

Me at checkout: thanks for dealing with economists for three weeks.
Sonesta desk guy: Easiest three weeks of the year. No parties, no credit problems. See you next year!

I've been in a coding hole making this one figure. Will we all have to do this for every diff-in-diff/TWFE paper from now on? This was exhausting.

Sad day.

My constant outrage over the last years has had 0 impact except to make me feel like I’ve done something by yelling into the echo chamber.

Rather channel it to productive actions to actually help people.

Been looking, got a few ideas. Any suggestions where MB>>MC?
