One of two stone buttresses on a quiet stretch of the river running through the Rydal Estate. Little is known of it's history, nor the bridge which stood here. But a lot of Roman/Medieval activity in the area.

The old track up to Kirkstone is probably the original Roman road from Ambleside.

The Stepping Stones, there's a second lesser known set in the Rothay Valley, but both sides on private land. There's a old road running through the valley, still traceable in parts, both sets of stones connect to this road.

Have almost run out of Chocolate drinks in plastic cups, but one left until Friday.

Gave a friend a Silver Denarius from my collection. He later told me he'd lost it in the streets of Ambleside. Which meant someone would find a ancient coin in modern Ambleside.

Saw a Badger running through Ambleside last night, stepped to one side to let it get by, gave me a look, then carried on.

Have never been to Pompeii but Pompeii came to me, in the form of ship's ballast. Which went into the building of Roman Ambleside and was then looted to build the present early Ambleside town.
