This 90s photo of a postbox in Devon was missing its collection plate, so collection times were painted on instead! We normally only see wall boxes without collection plates on 'back door boxes' at old post offices, but it seems like this one fell off!

This fantastic hand-painted collection plate remains at the postbox in the Caledonian Hotel, Edinburgh. Royal Mail still collects from it, though you won't find the box on their online map and the collection times are long out of date Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian

This modern steel postbox in rural England seems nothing special until you look closer. Somehow its 90s collection plate has survived decades of changes from Royal Mail, including modernisation of the box about a year ago.

Back from New Zealand in time for 200! Up a very very steep hill in Dunedin, South Island, is this Edward VII Penfold-style pillar box, made in Christchurch and still open for business.

Most walking postal routes in Britain ended in the 1970s (vans are now used), but because Rhenigidale on the Isle of Harris had no road until 1990, it was last walked on November 20 1989. The last postman was Steve McCombe, now 60. He's outside the island's Tarbert post office.

Currently on the other side of the world and can't give all your amazing posts the attention they deserve. Here's some of the interesting varieties of postbox found in New Zealand. Yes, that last one is an Edward VII Penfold and it's exclusive to NZ!

This bar has a bonus feature - an EIIR wall box! It seems like it's a former Post Office box with a hidden back door, as many have a replacement collection plate holder, but the words 'NEXT COLLECTION' under the slot give away that it's just an ordinary wall box

An excellent example of where a wall box has been replaced by a lamp box. You can easily see the dimensions of the older box in the wall repair

This George V pillar box is one of the first produced by Carron Company. Dating to the 1920s, it stands strong outside the Dreadnought in Leith. This craft beer pub renames itself 'Gayz Onley' every Pride Month, after it was graffitied onto their wall in 2021

On This Day in 1712: the world's oldest post office opened in Sanquhar, Dumfries and Galloway. It's been in continuous service for over 300 years. It started out as a staging post for horse-drawn mail carriages.
