Either the US stands for #HumanRights in #HongKong or it doesn’t. It isn’t a matter of convenience. For #HongKong ers who’ve fought so hard for freedom, US sanctions on CCP & HK officials are important. It would be very disappointing to see the US government take them so lightly.

Up to now, the US government has given staunch bi-partisan support to those advocating freedom & democracy in #HongKong . Inviting the rights-abusing US-sanctioned John Lee would be such a major departure as to appear as a failure of nerve & principle.

Under no circumstances should the US allow the rights-abusing US-sanctioned HK CE to enter the US. He is currently presiding over a massive systemic crackdown on HKers’ basic rights. Inviting him to APEC would be a HUGE step backwards for US policy on #HongKong .
