Stephen Walt is undoubtedly Harvard's most renowned professor of international relations.

Here is what he says on Iran's strike, which is an immense departure from what we commonly hear in Western media 🧵

My Aunt Fanny 🇵🇸 Jim🇵🇸 Inflation can be capped as Nixon did. Incidentally, we almost got UBI under Nixon. We can also re-instate the anti-price gouging laws which were in place prior to Dubya. What we need is an updated Glass-Steagall Act to keeps the banks/corporations/landlords/ oligarchs in check.

John Podhoretz Iran put five medium range ballistic missiles on target in Nevatim air base.

Nevatim is the most heavily defended spot in the world from the threat of ballistic missiles.

Defenses that were optimized to defeat Iranian missiles.

And yet five got through.

Chew on that, John.

America built some of the world's greatest architecture... and then demolished it.

A thread of wonders that were lost (and why)... 🧵

Culture Critic Jeremy Wayne Tate I’m convinced the late 1800’s/early 1900’s was peak America. We were running on all cylinders culturally and aesthetically.

JudithsAntler Indeed. The horrors of the 1960s thankfully led to the preservationist movement in America, which would now prevent most of these being demolished today.

8. Old Metropolitan Opera House, NYC (1883 - 1967)

When the Metropolitan Opera Association moved to a new venue, rather than risk competition from a new company buying the Old Met, they handed it to developers. It was demolished for bland commercial property to be built.

A wonderfully ornate theater inside what was a landmark of early modern architecture (by Louis Sullivan). Despite considerable protest, it was demolished for a parking garage.

The library's collection was destroyed by religious zealots in 391/2 AD - not by Caesar as is commonly held.

The circumference of the Earth, the Heliocentric system, atomic theory, and thousands of other concepts and proofs, were not re-discovered until the 15th Century. >>

It is estimated that only about 1% of the volumes contained in the Alexandrine collection have been recovered. These include, for example, Euclid's 'Elements,' and Ptolemy's 'Almagest.'

1000 Years of Darkness

At its height, the Library of Alexandria held nearly a million scrolls. Its scholars knew the circumference of the Earth, that it revolved around the Sun, that matter was made of invisible fragments called 'atoms,' and records of 1000 years of history. >>

BiBi needs more money, weapons, and guard dogs.

The truth is that without the Western Sugar Daddy, Israel ceases to exist.

Whereas the West would barely register the loss of Israel.

One lesson he thought that I always remember was this:

He asked us:
