What makes waves? Wind! During our 3rd field excursion, we measured wind speed and learned how to use a compass to determine wind direction. Today’s winds were a breezy 8 kts, coming from the northwest. 1/

How has the coastline of Governors Island & Red Hook changed over time? Today, our 6th graders traveled in a time machine back 20,000 yes when Governors Island was covered in a sheet of ice 4x the height of the One World Trade Center, all the way to 2012 when Hurricane Sandy- 1/

Sometimes you work hard to plan a lesson and it fails. Sometimes you work to plan a lesson and it is wildly successful. This was one of those! Science teachers: make 🌡 with straw, rubbing alcohol, and clay. Great springboard for teaching weather, climate, and climate change.
