One of the most frustrating nights for press access i’ve experienced as a reporter. At Columbia & CCNY, police barricaded public streets for blocks, obstructing journalists from seeing what was happening even from a distance. A policy of exclusion cheered on by Eric Adams’ staff

With a few weeks left in session and a huge gap between the Assembly position and governor/Senate Democrats, a group pushing climate legislation stands up a campaign arm to target Assembly Democrats who don't support a gas transition bill...

More on this later in the week :)

'I have never been more optimistic' - Congressman Daniel Goldman on offshore wind in NY as the state has only 2 large-scale projects under contract (5 canceled) and is unlikely to have any more built before 2030. No commitments for major new factories.

$500m was in 2022 budget

These are indeed mainly re-bids (51 of 57 projects submitted were previously contracted)

Notable: NYSERDA has previously released list of provisional awardees and cost impacts at this stage. Not this time.

Also, usually a lot more fanfare...

It's really hard to know if community choice aggregators are getting a good deal -- as an example, the town of Union locked in (opt out basis) residents for 53 cents/therm natural gas. That was a good deal compared to 12-month trailing avg for 2023 but doesn't look as good now..

California has had enough renewable energy to meet more than 100% of electricity demand on the state's main power grid on most days for the last month. It's a springtime phenomenon — not too hot, lots of sunshine — but still a sign of remarkable progress: politico.com/newsletters/po…

This number will tick upward when onshore large-scale awards are announced later this month, but NYSERDA would have to award all the proposed projects to almost replace the lost 2030 capacity from these offshore wind projects.

Cost impacts will be a key metric.

Collapse of negotiations for three wind projects threatens New York's climate goals

State plans new bidding process later this year, but projects won't be required to come online by 2030. New York only has 57% renewables for 2030 under contract/built
