After a busy but positive meeting of ⁦BC Europe⁩ we had a brief excursion and saw a Mallow Skipper. Tomorrow some serious survey work for the rare and threatened endemic Euchloe bazae (Spanish Greenish Black-tip)

An emphasis of the Greenwings northern & central Spain tour is helping guests understand the ecology of the species they're seeing, including the food plants being used. Finding Spring Ringlets laying on Sheep's-fescue has been a particular highlight.

I've been hoping for a side-by-side photo of an Orange-tip and Provence Orange-tip (Anthocharis euphenoides) on the Greenwings northern & central Spain tour, but this will have to do for now - a male one one if its larval food plants - a species of Biscutella!

Great to be in Spain travelling to the ⁦⁦⁦BC Europe⁩ board meeting in Barcelona, doing 15 minute counts on the way from the port at Bilbao. This Large Tortoishell had seen better days but was seen egg laying soon after!

Today our first Green hairstreaks (groentje, Callophrys rubi) of this year. We saw at least 15 or so, the warm weekend brought them out very early.
