I finished O'Donovan's *The Disappearance of Ethics* over the weekend and would like to report that it thoroughly vindicates my reading here.

It's the most *explicitly* Barthian book from O'Donovan we have, I think.

Jesus asks hundreds of questions in the Bible.

He directs exactly *one* to the Father: 'My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?'

In *CIQ,* I suggest that 'questioning is a form of intellectual poverty, as it is an encounter with what we do not know.' It is the intellectual form our 'poverty of spirit' takes.

I've been spending the afternoon discussing William May's *The Physician's Covenant* with Kal Fell and a bunch of Paul Ramsey fellows.

They don't write theological ethics like they used to. What a gem of a book it is.

Before Leo Strauss developed esotericism, Quintilian was openly touting it as a way of speaking under political duress.

In related news, I have fallen into a hole the size of the Roman Empire and I may never find my way out.

'Trumpian populism is about many things, but one of them is this: working-class people rebelling against administrators.'

This is a very good David Brooks column.
