Andrew Jackson Gerdundula @mcadams_at_rice Axel Folio, PhD, Endowed Prof of Popeyes Chicken 'ideologically driven' - bang on Gerdundula! The term Anglo-Saxon, the way it's been used in the last 150yrs is precisely that. The pirate conquerer narrative created to justify/explain English 'superiority' in a period of natnlism. Anglo-Saxon appears 3x in texts from the period

@mcadams_at_rice Shane Landrum, PhD (they/them) what was Anne Frank's end game? She had no idea at the time whether the diary would ever be published or make a difference. But she still wrote it. Maybe hope was her game. Or just an act of defiance to the bullies that stormed around her.

Gerdundula Andrew Jackson @mcadams_at_rice Axel Folio, PhD, Endowed Prof of Popeyes Chicken What do you think constitutes “impartial historical research?” Who has ever written/recorded history in an ideological, cultural and political bubble? Just as science has evolved as we know more, why can’t history?

melissa terras @anandilila @mcadams_at_rice I was told a similar thing by a female mentor in my PHD program, so solidarity. But I went on to present at while pregnant with terrible morning sickness and still won the prestigious Paul Fortier award for a paper by an early career scholar. You’ve got this.

Shane Landrum, PhD (they/them) @mcadams_at_rice Lovely idea, thanks. In the UK there is a Diary Project that saves and archives personal diaries. Led by Dr Irving Finkel, who is not on Twitter so far as I know.

Gerdundula @mcadams_at_rice Axel Folio, PhD, Endowed Prof of Popeyes Chicken The poor old Jutes never get a mention, I've never seen a purple-faced gammon raging on that he's literally a Jute even though they all showed up around the same time. Down with this Jute erasure!

Wendy Bohon, PhD 🌏 @mcadams_at_rice My children were born 12 months apart, 2009 and 2010. I was pregnant and nursing for the last 2.5 years of my PhD! It was hard but I’m still here and am stronger bc if it. Thanks Mike Oskin my advisor and all my academic friends for their support. ,

Dr Jen Kitchen @mcadams_at_rice That’s fantastic. I wonder if the professor in question could have passed to the same standard while doing all the work his wife does with their children. Perhaps he could give it a go and advise female students after that.

Gerdundula @mcadams_at_rice Axel Folio, PhD, Endowed Prof of Popeyes Chicken Mate, if you're this intent on embracing 'Englishness' and proclaiming it loudly in public, the first thing you need to do is learn what English words mean.

Hope that helps.
