My memories of Oka remain vivid; it transformed me and my subsequent life; the headlines today are similar ‘rule of law’ ‘inconveniences’ and so on: very proud to see this new generation taking action, putting themselves on the frontlines of resistance. hiy hiy

Federal Gov't arguments that they are enforcing the 'rule of law' re: the Wet'suwet'en would have more integrity if the CHRT did not have to issue 9 non-compliance orders (and counting) to the feds since 2016 for failing to end discrimination towards First Nations children.

I just found out that Oxford Fruit, a pillar of Kensington Market, run by Mrs. Ng for 25 years--- cannot afford skyrocketing rent when their lease is up. They will be forced out by March. It's a sad, maddening day in a city losing its soul to gentrification. What can be done?

As a historian, I've written a new piece for the @Torontostar (it will also appear in tomorrow's print edition): 'Putting the RCMP raid on the Wet’suwet’en in historical perspective': thestar.com/opinion/contri…

Those Canadians angered + frustrated by actions should really direct that anger + frustration at the root cause: Canada's continued + wilful support of mis-education about Indigenous-settler relations; ignorance facilitates colonial injustice in Canada.

Here in , it’s ten o’clock at night and one of the city’s biggest intersections is filled with drumming, song, a fire, sage, several hundred people, and love.

This is what a movement looks like.

The sun has just gone down and the cowardly RCMP are advancing on Unistot’en in the dark to avoid video footage of what they are about to do. RISE UP! If our people won’t sleep tonight nobody will!

That's right: the Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs gave *an alternate route* to Coastal GasLink. One they were okay with because it avoided ecologically pristine and culturally important areas.

And Coastal GasLink refused.

DO NOT let this info get lost in misleading rhetoric.

My child's teacher will have been picketing 5 days at the end of this week. That means $2175 of pay forgone. 1 more day and the 1% difference won't get earned back for 3 years. Tell me again how it's 'All about compensation'?

Another injustice. After being subjected to being shocked in an electric chair, why should these survivors now have to suffer the indignity of Canada refusing to tell the truth?

.BCRCMP state that a 2way radio, sat phone, GoPro, and other items are seized as part of an investigation around 39km arrests. All charges were dropped from people at 39km. This makes zero sense. We live in a police state.

When Indigenous people stand up for the lands and waters, they are not protesting or engaging in activism. The media, governments, and police use this terminology on purpose to minimize the fact that Nations are saying NO to resource extraction.
