I often talk about how the way history is taught is expressly political, and this is a perfect example. This person, who considers themself educated enough to opine on Eastern Europe, just blithely admitting that they have *no idea* why Ireland speaks English and what the UK is.

1/2 At lunch with my friends in Melbourne yesterday, & when the server asked to see my vaccination cert, I found it on my phone. She looked baffled so I told her it was the EU cert, and when she didn’t react, I said kind-of pompously, “I’m from Europe.”

When my eldest was about 7 or 8 we had a phone call from the school asking if we could explain something she'd written when asked to describe herself. After the usual stuff about appearance, hobbies etc. she had casually added 'There is the soul of a dead boy in my heart'.

Just been reading about this. I think we can file it away under 'it was a different time back then'...

Local paper running a story today about groups of kids causing bother, getting drunk, lobbing eggs at houses etc. They really aren't messing about in the comments section.

The most depressing conclusion to this is that, for me, 32% seems astonishing only in how low it is. We saw it in 2016 and again in 2019. Open hostility to foreigners is a vote-winner in this fucking country.

Until further notice the Young Labour Twitter account will now be managed by a selection of 40-65s who voted Lib Dem last election.

Just overheard my two youngest (10 and 12) both agreeing that I a) threaten to 'destroy their reputation in the press' too often and b) neither of them know what it means but both are in agreement that it was never very funny.
