In MLA news, I'm helping organize the Chaucer forum/New Chaucer Society meet-up on Saturday night. If this is an affinity group for you and yet you feel weird about showing up because you don't know anyone, PLEASE drop me a line and I'll make sure you meet folks. We are friendly!

Not really On Here much, but if you would like an invite to the other site to which much of academic twitter appears to have decamped, DM me

A very niche request for my manuscript studies pals: do you have a favorite snarky catalogue description of a medieval manuscript, perhaps from someone like MR James?

If anyone is looking for a role model, may I suggest the 50ish woman next to us at the Bread and Puppet performance, sitting in her lawn chair in happy solitude, reading a hardback copy of Women Who Run With the Wolves as she waited for the performance to start

Look, I know medieval twitter is enjoying the opportunity to dunk on this, but they're one of the only brands that makes post-mastectomy underwear that isn't completely fucking dire and so if they want to do that *and* celebrate Hildegard, I will continue to support them

Re-upping this with some particulars: it's a one course load plus a public lecture and WIP presentation, and it comes with housing and a stipend to offset expenses, plus an honorarium. A good gig, I think!

I wrote this piece in The Nation about the cuts at WVU and how small states will crush their R1 unis to cash grab for big tech. WVU is the only R1 in WV and these cuts will shred higher ed in the state. Please read and share. (A thread)

Credit to the Gazette-Mail for noting, in its story on faculty cuts, that 130 staff at WVU have already lost their jobs. At some level this feels like the staff-ification of faculty, and points to the need for all university workers to fight together. wvgazettemail.com/news/education…
