Tragic. Crazy. Preventable.
Firearm injuries are the top cause of “accidental” death among young children & teenagers in the US.

2,590 children & teens under the age of 18 died of firearm injuries in 2021, up from 1,311 in 2011.

Sadly many patients don't have a support system to be on hospice at home. It takes a loved one to care for that person. The system is broken actually. Also sadly many don't realize all hospice companies are not the same & put profits over compassionate care. To die in an SNF? NO!

Megan Ranney MD MPH 🌻 The problem is President Carter has the money to pay for 24hr assistance if his family cannot provide it. I have sent patients home on hospice but the services provided by hospice under Medicare do not meet patient needs in a world where their children need to work

Dawn stern Megan Ranney MD MPH 🌻 No the needs aren’t even close to being met. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, being a 24/7 caregiver ( it has taken me months to recover) , and I’m a retired nurse! I don’t know how people with no experience cope.
