Luke Springer (iam.mrluke) is absolutely right - we need to reclaim the narrative about education. That yes, teaching can be tough, but it can also bring joy and fun.

Michelle Dennis We need to identify our best staff (or train) to support these practicum students. Even as simple as identifying the block of weeks ahead. Does the staff member have an uninterrupted schedule? Are the scheduled classes conducive to supporting the prac students requirements?

I think that teachers also want to feel valued - by their families, their leadership, their community and greater society. When we compare education on an international scale, the cultural attitude towards it is a difficult to measure but influential aspect.

One of the things I'm proudest about is the ability for our Haileybury Pangea teachers to work flexibly. Geoff Orton 🌏 just spent some time in Japan - and didn't miss a beat.

There is a Catch-21 with professional learning communities. They fill the bucket and can give wonderful strategies and support - but they also require time and effort to maintain. We need to be intentional in how we build these communities in our schools.

Schools are complex organisms. While we need to acknowledge that complexity and account for it, we also need to make sure that we don't get paralyzed by it, that we look at ways to manage and support change.

I find it really interesting that the problem that Professor Mark Scott is talking about, in terms of Teacher retention and attention, reminds me of the leaky pipeline that we see when trying to support women in Computer Science.

If you have lived in Australia, you have inherited a deficit focus on Indigenous Education rather than a strengths-based approach - A/Prof Marnee Shay.

So important, Dr Marnee Shay has to say about co-design requiring not just involving Indigenous voices in the developing solutions, but in identifying and prioritising problems to be solved. It just makes sense - but so often doesn't happen (not just in this area.)

I really appreciate the strength-based approach to Indigenous Education. As Educational Leaders, this is a powerful call to action to look below the surface of our policies and programs, and how we can reframe and recalibrate these.

One of the common themes at has been about the power that Middle Leaders have in creating change in a school - and questions on how we can support them not only within their schools, but across the community. I think it's an important question that we should have.
