WAY too many Brits don’t know that the Midlands exists. I remember when I told a northerner that I was from the East Midlands and he was like “huh? The Middle East??”

The 1st airplane built in Texas was the Pliska Aeroplane, which was built in 1911 in Midland, Texas by John V. Pliska, a blacksmith, and Gray Coggin, a chauffeur and auto mechanic. Remarkably, the plane still exists and is suspended over the baggage claim at the Midland airport.
