Macklin Celebrini is the youngest player to ever win the Hobey Baker Award - he joins Paul Kariya (1993), Jack Eichel (2015) & Adam Fantilli (2023) as the only freshmen to win it. They turned 18 in Oct. at the start of their NCAA seasons. Celebrini doesn't turn 18 until June.

Again. Not saying L. Hughes is the 'legit Calder winner', but 'legit Calder candidate'. And for complete transparency, this would be my Calder ballot if I had a vote:
1-Connor Bedard
2-Brock Faber
3-Luke Hughes
4-Pyotr Kochetkov
5-Marco Rossi

That's true. But if you're bringing that up, you also need to consider the circumstances. He's logging so much ice time for a reason (he gives NJ the best chance each time he's on the ice). He is a rookie and team D/goaltending hasn't exactly been up to par this season

Let's talk Luke Hughes ...
1st among NHL rookie D in gls 9-a 38-p 47-takeaways 43. The highest-scoring rookie D in history & 2nd highest in franchise history (Barry Beck, 60 pts). 1st among all NHL rookies with 25 PPP & averages 21:24 TOI. A legit Calder candidate!

Yes, Denver defenseman Zeev Buium is an offensive catalyst from the back end for sure. But I don't think he gets enough credit for what he's able to do defensively. He gets back, defends, blocks shots, angles forwards wide, uses his stick well while back-pedaling.

Great seeing colleague and radio host Dave McCarthy yesterday, who was in town for Devils/Maple Leafs. We had lunch at iconic Hobby's Deli in the afternoon, talked hockey. Thanks for the visit, Mac!

Auston Matthews on passing Ovi for most gls among active players in a season: 'It's cool. He's obviously who he is and what he's done for the game and what he's accomplished. So it's an honor to be in the same sentence with him.'

Travis Green: 'I think this has been one of those seasons where there's been high expectations & things don't go the way you want. It's different when you have a vet team & young team, & you've also got key players injured all year. There's a process to everything.'

Travis Green on Jack Hughes: 'I just think with where we're at this time, it's time to shut him down. It's no secret he's been struggling a little bit but kudos to him to continue to play and try to help this team get into the playoffs.'

Auston Matthews scored his 66th goal of the season for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 5-2 win against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Tuesday. Matthews past Alex Ovechkin (65 goals in 2007-08) for the most goals in a single season by an active player.
