The Mille Lacs Indian Trading Post served as a general store for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe from 1918 until 1959. The trading post reached its peak in 1937, where it evolved from a sales operation into a cultural center for art sales, trading, and education about Ojibwe life.

, April 3, 1920, the head house of the new St. Paul Union Depot building opened its doors to the public for the first time. While the business and ticket lobby opened in 1920, the concourse and waiting room were completed and opened in phases between 1922 and 1924.
