Although pretty common through much of the UK, the Great Spotted Woodpecker is an unusual bird to see in #Shetland . There have been a few wintering this year, and this particular one has often been in our garden

Some more Otters from #Shetland , and also had a visit from the '27' pod of Killer Whales, who are often seen close to the shore around Shetland.

The 'kids' playing while mother brings the dinner.... on a flat-calm day in Shetland. We could hear every movement, splash and the crunch of teeth going through bones.

I found a Shetland Bumble Bee (Moss Carder subspecies) nest today - just a small hole in the heather with around 20 bees flying around, and several discarded larval chambers (thanks Jon Dunn 🇺🇦 ) outside.
