The reason those awards exist at all, is because it has been so hard for non-white artists to be recognized in mainstream awards contests. And yes, white people have been nominated for and won both BET and NAACP awards.

Much of the opposition to DEI is based on the premise that a Black person with any measure of power or authority will automatically treat white people like white people with power have historically treated Black people.

This is a major reason why there’s huge opposition to things like DEI and the #1619project , because lots of folks are convinced that (white) America was more unified when there was mass ignorance about how this country really came to be.

The National Urban League’s data suggests we’re 180 YEARS from seeing racial equality in America. While we’ve made significant progress since the Civil Rights Act, we can't afford to wait nearly two centuries for equality!
