Yesterday was a good day in sunny and stunning Hazelton BC. Meeting with Gitxsan chiefs talking about getting to agreements on a path forward together. Some progress but much more work to do.

Had a good and wide-ranging conversation with the federal Fisheries Minister, Diane Lebouthillier, yesterday.

Saving wild salmon, sturgeon, invasive mussels, steelhead fishery, aquaculture, Pacific Salmon Treaty and support for drought mitigation.

Great to join Rob Fleming this morning as he announced $300 million in transit funding to support TransLink BC with putting more buses on the road, and expanding SeaBus and HandyDART service hours for the people that depend on transit!

This is potentially great news for those who love the railway across northwestern BC! Thanks to all who have advocated for this and especially our MP Taylor Bachrach who has put in the time (and miles) raising awareness of the need for investment in Via. #bcpoli #cdnpoli

Today’s federal budget includes a commitment to replace VIA Rail Canada’s aging long-distance train fleet, including the train that runs between Jasper and Prince Rupert.

As NDP transport critic I’ve pushed hard for this commitment and it’s good to see it in black and white.

Kitimat now has 44 new homes for women and children leaving violence. The building also has a new 24-hour child care centre with 60 spaces.

We are building more housing across BC, including more spaces for women and children in vulnerable situations.

A kid’s job at school is to explore & learn, but this can be challenging for those who struggle to read or write. We’re supporting kids with dyslexia & other learning disabilities by introducing evidenced-based screening for kids from K to Gr. 3 in all school districts.

I’m just leaving Haida Gwaii after witnessing history in the making.

For 150 years the Haida have argued their title to these islands.

For generations Canadian courts have told us to negotiate.
