I cannot stress this enough and still face pushback from senior colleagues about it. Also, you’re not doing your PhD students any favours encouraging them to write a 900-page dissertation (intra-institutional subtweet)

Just had a great conference at the UChicago Delhi Center, with colleagues saying thank god my university hadn't viciously overreacted like UCLA + Columbia. Appalled that the admin has now threatened imminent use of force vs protesters. The University of Chicago, the eyes of the world are on you.

Very good to be back in Delhi - with some apt reading material on just how friction-filled globalization really is (especially if you fly Air India)

Eagerly awaiting Ryan Cecil Jobson's book on the oil 'masquerade of permanence': a century+ of commercial oil production in T&T 'instructs us to regard the petro-state less as a permanent form than a fragile relation between fossil fuels and sovereign authority'

And WHAT a cover

This is great—a very early example of the phrase 'fuel riot.' Wm Cavert finds evidence of a moral economy of coal even earlier in C17th London (if not actual riots). The politics of fuelwood takes us all the way back to the 'other Magna Carta,' Charter of the Forest (1217)
