A lot of people don't understand how California schools are funded - especially people from the East Coast.

This FAQ from a school district foundation donation request page ($3000 per child in 2010) where the median sold home is $3.1M ($1.7K / sqft) nails the explanation:

Strong Town's 'growth ponzi scheme' prediction has come true for my hometown. Infrastructure in the largely low-density neighborhoods is deteriorating rapidly. They recently made utility mains underneath the street the homeowner's responsibility.

Lets be real: American men who buy the truck on the left are not the types to haul anything. That shit is empty 99.9% of its life.

Something that most people don't know about California:

Property tax revenues are so low that 87% of ordinary school districts need state backfill money to meet state minimum spend per student.

Think about that $9M house in SF that was paying just $3K/year.

your daily reminder that gas taxes and tolls only fund about half of road spending and the other half comes from taxes that everyone pays

I have friends I made in SF who now live in:
1. Austin
2. Bend
3. Las Vegas
4. Phoenix
5. Chicagoland

Almost all of em cited COL as the reason they left. Seems reasonable for them to have opinions on the community that exiled them

Please mull over this list that Bertin conveniently pulled together that outlines what all suburban Silicon Valley boomers know to be FACTS... especially the last one (everyone knows that's only reason people do that)

Voters: Why won't the city council do something about the homeless!?

Also Voters: Oh you support the *county's* plan to buy a hotel on El Camino Real to house homeless people? You're getting recalled.

The memory-holing of covid began 4 years ago today thanks to Fox News.

This was while New York started using street parked refrigerated trailers trucks to hold the overflowing dead.

I authored SB 10, a state housing law.

Opponents sued, claiming the state has no legal role in housing.

The Court of Appeal affirmed SB 10’s legality & the state’s role in housing policy: “[T]here is a direct link between the affordability of housing & the supply of housing.”
