I’m seeing complaints about arrests being made in protests over the Israel-Hamas war. But part of committing civil disobedience is accepting the possibility of punishment. Gandhi would have said it guarantees the sincerity of the action.

Good. If parking for government workers is necessary, the city sd clearly mark such legal spaces (it can take away general parking spots for this) and enforce the parking by license plates and Q code. And send a 1099 to the IRS for the benefit cash value.

If breaking the law is the same as not breaking the law, then why even break the law? Just paint a sign and walk around with it on the public street outside campus.

Nicole As you say, the whole point of the action is to create a reaction, such as suspension. The hope is that the reaction will cause revulsion in the general community actuating change. But it also can be that nobody cares about the action or reaction. And then you are just suspended.
