Omw back from Aurora this numbnutz drunk driver (in a Tesla on autopilot 🙄) rear-ended the F out of me. Called LAPD 4 times & said he was drunk… he finally called an Uber to flee the scene. Took cops 1h50m to show up.

Anyway, rip my WYD WYA plates but they still look metal asf

Really hope this bullshit is at least optional (I know it won’t be opt-in 🙄), I want no part of OpenAI / GPT / ai on my device. Wonder how long Apple will let [us] hold back iOS updates before bricking phones with this nonsense. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

I have so many questions about this “illustration” Bloomberg ran with Mark Gurman’s story on Ternus succeeding Cook as CEO:

Why is it photorealistic? Either run a real photograph or draw an illustration. This is downright misleading — if you don’t read the caption one would…

I found it interesting to read the Japanese backlash responses to this, some particularly disturbed because of a belief in “Tsukumogami” — the idea that creative tools can possess a spirit of their own (a beautiful notion), so destroying them is truly evil.

… not a great look

Albini posts got me thinking about the nature of the hater. True haters have an important function in culture: they test your love for the hated artist or artefact. I really believe that if you can’t stand to see someone hate a thing you love, that means you doubt your own love

umm actually 🤓 it’s the opposite. you have to sauté the onions for a bit before you add the garlic or else the garlic will burn. not a good metaphor. not a good man.

Here is the final paragraph of a letter to the editor that Steve Albini wrote to the Chicago Reader in 1994. It was directed towards a critic who wrote a year-end recap. King.

This Apple ad is what happens when you try to be “edgy” with no consideration for strategy.

Consider first principles:

1) Apple is a brand built on giving people a sense of inspiration and joy (eg, the colorful 2000s iPod ads)

2) Their target audience is consumers who are…

Tim Cook Many craftsmen value their tools.
Musicians value their instruments, architects value their rulers, painters value their brushes and painting materials more than life itself. The video you presented “all in one”, but it will only disgust them. They may never want to engage with…

We’re pretty rapidly and consciously heading towards a future where everything you do on the Internet requires government ID, with basically no attention paid to the consequences of that (indeed, the consequences of that may be the whole point.)

One of the insidious things about YouTube’s “AI jump ahead” is we train machines [to growth-max or whatever bs] but they in turn ‘train’ ppl to change how they make videos to optimize for an algorithm rather than to be interesting or informative. Everything is gamified & worse.
