Nice piece by Andrew O'Brien. Agree that exploring past traditions can expand imaginative horizons in the present. My reservation is over whether lost or marginalised traditions can really carry much political weight beyond that.

Thinking of those who lost loved ones, those who survived & those who are affected everyday.

There are of course limits to devolution - I’m not who is suggesting otherwise. But this presents a quite enormous straw man, in service of a view of the constitution which served the centre-left extremely poorly in the 20th century.

Good to see the new Political Quarterly is now out - includes my review of Daisy Payling's 'Socialist Republic', with some thoughts more broadly on Labour's 1980s & the 'Pride' school of modern British history.

This new-ish history of Political Quarterly is a great little window into the intellectual culture of the British centre left since the 1930s. Bernard Crick a faintly hilarious character.

Good stuff - range of voices, useful dash of scepticism & remembering the distributional issues that parts of the housing “debate” are artfully constructed to make us forget

Today's Sam Adler-Bell piece on psychoanalysis led me to read this astonishing article about the economist Wynne Godley having a terrible, terrible time.

I'll be in Oxford on the 29th of April to give a lecture - on the fate of utopia in the twentieth century and beyond - to launch the latest edition of the Oxford Political Review. Looking forward to it!

'The problem is not, then, that citizens have become more emotional or susceptible to bullshit than they were in the 1950s, but that they are less sure who to trust.' - Emily Robinson and Jonathan Moss explore the politics of feeling in Brexit Britain.
