-We have a peculiar uk tradition of feeding kids less quality food than adults
-Education has been defunded
-Government/voters don't value food, education, or young people enough
-A company can do it on the cheap & make profits
-Gov is now about quick wins& bare min for us plebs

Yip. I grew up in France- school lunches were one of the things that made me love food. We had a proper chef cook a healthy 3-course meal from scratch every day. Kids and teaches all ate together along communal tables. Bog standard state school in provincial town, not private.

'Is it fair and is it transparent [to use fake farm names]'? inquiry asks Tesco. Jees. I, and other journos, wrote about these same fictitious farm names that sounded British, back in MARCH 2016...🙄 fwi.co.uk/business/tesco… cc Farmers Weekly

Love this. The UK is really lucky to have so many great who act as advocates/ ambassadors for food production and doing things differently. It's been great to see many more develop their voices the last few years too.

In years to come society will be as shocked by food industry tactics - deny, minimise, obfuscate, attack, blame ‘consumers’ - as we are now by the tobacco companies tactics. Citizens want governments to act.

When commentators doubt the need for border checks, note that last week alone 3.4t of illegal meat was intercepted inc. 54 unrefrigerated sheep carcasses from Romania wrapped in bin bags.

It’s biosecurity; it’s public health; it’s organised crime.

If your farmers can't plant because the climate won't allow it; it's too expensive; it's not profitable; it's too risky....that's when you'd hope the penny would start to drop in Westminster re the gradual unravelling of our national ....🙄😬

'The absolute essential staples - the cost of those is astronomical compared to a decade ago, and my wages are maybe £2 more an hour than a decade ago. I spend about 80% of my income on food' - witness to the House of Lords Food, Diet and Obesity Committee today. Bloody hell. Why is this not talked about by PM?
