The archaeological section of the City Museum in Rimini is a revelation. I am especially fond of this Anubi mosaic from the late 2nd to early 3rd century AD.

Be blown away by the sheer scale and beauty of the mosaic work in Galla Placidia’s mausoleum in Ravenna. The brilliant sky adorned with stars stretches above a scene of the good shepherd tending to his flock.

Gaze into the hypnotic eyes of this ancient octopus and marvel in the Mycenaean artistry on display. The poor fish must be just as bamboozled really.

I love the humble terracotta lamp. Mass-produced, humble, with so many interesting variations and artistic expressions. Here we see a bust of the beardy god Mars, wearing a cuirass and crested helmet, with an arrow behind him.

Sorry to dredge this up yet again… Ryan Stitt of The History of Ancient Greece podcast has continued his annual tradition of posting an episode. So we must again remind everyone that he is an ABUSER who used his platform to harm people & ask everyone not to support his work.

This tempera-on-linen mummy shroud was created during the Roman era in Egypt. He appears to be on the cusp of adulthood, given the wispy facial hair. The boy has a beautiful wreath on his head, and the bird on his shoulder may represent Horus or Harpocrates.
